The arrangement and normalization effort of Pluit Reservoir, North Jakarta, by city government is considered successful by many public elements. The water came from normalization reservoir is able to be consumed. Also, the effort saves the city from flooding and social problems.

"In a year, Pluit reservoir is well arranged and wider compared to previous condition," said Firdaus Ali, a lecturer of University of Indonesia during Pluit Reservoir book in Cikini, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (3/26).

Firdaus assessed, Jakarta government is also capable to arrange the seaside that is prone to disaster based on urban development and risk potential water crisis approaching. Previously, the city development was only focused on the exploitation of land space which caused many problems.

"The initiative action proposed by Jokowi by asking PT Jakarta Propertindo in managing Pluit and Ria Rio reservoir is a new breakthrough," Firdaus uttered.

He explained that the city should learn from Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and Hanoi (Vietnam) which could provide drinking water services better than Jakarta. Currently, drinking water service in Hanoi has reached 90 percent and Phnom Penh reached 70 percent. On the contrary, piped water service in Jakarta has only reached 38 percent out of total area 650 km square.

Firdaus continued that Jokowi has taken the right step in arranging and normalizing Pluit Reservoir. “Jakarta under Jokowi command has committed and been consistent in arranging Pluit reservoir, and it has been proved,” he added.
