Joint personnel from West Jakarta Social Sub-Department and West Jakarta Satpol PP netted 30 people with social welfare problems (PMKS) from pedestrian bridges (JPO) on Jl. S Parman, Jl. Latumenten, and Jl. Daan Mogot. The PMKS netted in the raid held on Monday (3/10) night until Tuesday (3/11) morning were vagrants and beggars.

“The PMKS netted consist of 15 men, 10 women, and 5 kids,” told Head of West Jakarta Satpol PP, Kadiman Sitinjak, Tuesday (3/11).

According to Sitinjak, the raid was focused on pedestrian bridges because his party received many complaints from residents who were disturbed with the existence of vagrants, either children as well as adults, and beggars who used the bridge as place to sleep at night. If such a thing was neglected, pedestrian bridges will be prone to criminal action.

“We will keep holding raid against PMKS in the future, especially on pedestrian bridges so those areas would be completely clean from beggars and vagrants,” he stated.

Suryati (48), one of the beggars who was netted on pedestrian bridge near Trisakti University, admitted that she has been doing this profession for five years. And from begging all day until night, she could gain more than Rp 100 thousand in a day.

“I’ve been netted for three times. But, I’m not wary because after leaving the social institution, I had to return begging since I’m confused what kind of job I would do,” expressed the woman who possess Serang ID Card (KTP).
