West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah has ensured that all flood pumps, including permanent (stationary) pumps, mobile pumps, and floating pumps, are in good condition and ready for use.

Iin said that, in general, all pumps across West Jakarta are operating at optimal capacity, both those installed at pump stations and mobile pumps deployed in flood-prone areas.

"All pumps in West Jakarta are functioning optimally, both those at pump stations and mobile pumps located in flood-prone locations," she said on Wednesday (1/14).

She pointed to flooding in Rawa Buaya Urban Village several days ago, which was successfully handled by pumping water into the Mookervart River.

"The water gradually receded, although it did take some time because the volume of water flowing in from upstream was still quite high," she shared.

According to Iin, flooding that affected several residential areas in West Jakarta was caused by prolonged and repeated local rainfall, which led Mookervart River and Semongol River to overflow.

"All parties must strengthen awareness and actively contribute to addressing flood issues in West Jakarta, both through inter-agency coordination and community participation," she asserted.

Meanwhile, West Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency Head, Purwanti, said her team is working to ensure pumps operate optimally while maintaining empty stilling basins along river channels.

"During dry conditions, we are emptying the stilling basins so they are ready to accommodate water when rainfall occurs. We also hope there will be no tidal flooding or large volumes of water from upstream," she explained.

Purwanti noted that West Jakarta has 49 pump stations with a total of around 150 pump units, all of which are currently ready for operation.

In addition, there are 70 mobile or trailer-mounted pumps that have been deployed to flood-prone areas, including Rawa Buaya Urban Village and other locations.

"As for floating pumps, we have 60 units that have also been distributed to every sub-district. This allows each sub-district to immediately drain floodwater using floating pumps when rainfall occurs," she outlined.
