South Jakarta Mayor Muhammad Anwar has ensured that all flood control pumps across the region are fully functional and ready for the rainy season.

To anticipate and manage any potential flooding

He confirmed that both primary and backup pumps have been in optimal condition well before the rains arrived to effectively handle potential waterlogging and floods.

Herianto, a senior official at the South Jakarta Water Resources Agency (SDA), confirmed that all 39 stationary pumps in the city are fully operational.

To further strengthen flood mitigation, the agency has added a new mobile pump with a capacity of 500 liters per second, bringing the total fleet to 15 trailer units. Besides mobile units, the agency has deployed a new Rapid Response (URC) vehicle equipped with a floating pump.

"We are fully prepared to anticipate and manage any potential flooding or inundation across South Jakarta," he expressed.

He added that the SDA Sub-agency has deployed 30 portable and floating pumps to flood-prone districts. Following leadership directives, all mobile units are now stationed directly at high-risk hotspots rather than being kept in storage.

"These pumps must be on-site and ready for immediate action," he emphasized.

However, he warned that waste remains the primary threat to pump operations. Debris often clogs the systems, leading to mechanical failures.

"We urge the public to help maintain our environment. Experience shows that most pump breakdowns are directly caused by accumulated trash," he noted.
