The fire burned the Pengayoman Hospital in the Cipinang Prison area, Jalan Raya Bekasi Timur, Cipinang Besar Utara Urban Village, Jatinegara Sub-district.
No casualties in the incident
East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency (Gulkarmat) Head, Muchtar Zakaria expressed the fiee first came out from the archive warehouse inside Pengayoman Hospital at 07:10 AM, triggered by an electrical short circuit.
"The employee tried to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher, but failed," he expressed, Monday (12/1).
He then deployed 12 fire engines and 60 firefighters to the scene and arrived at 7:31 AM.
"They managed to put out the flames at 8:31 AM. No casualties in the incident," he explained.
For investigative purposes, the scene has been cordoned off with police tape by officers from Jatinegara Sector Police.
Pengayoman Hospital Cleaning Service, Raka admitted that while on duty, he smelled a burning aroma and saw thick smoke rising from the stationery warehouse on the second floor.
"At first, thick smoke was seen billowing from inside the warehouse. We tried to extinguish it using fire extinguishers and a hydrant but failed. That was when we immediately contacted the personnel to come," he explained.
Jakarta Community Managemeny General Directorate's Collaboration Sub-directorate Head, Rita Aprianti explained that at the time of the incident, 28 patients were immediately evacuated to several rooms around the building.
"The hospital services have returned to normal after the incident because all main facilities are still operational," she stated.
