Penjaringan District Water Body's Trash Management Unit, North Jakarta is routinely clean up trash on Angke River, Kapuk Muara Urban Village.

We routinely clean the area

Unit's Supervisor, Seno Rivaldi said the trash floating in the Angke River comes from various sources, including household waste that is carelessly dumped into the river and waste sent from upstream.

"We routinely clean the area, deploying seven personnel. We usually use a motorized pontoon boat," he said, Thursday (11/27).

The trash that is seen piling up is because the river has become shallow, so when the water recedes a lot of trash is visible.

"We can collect around four cubic meters of trash every day. We also sort it," he added.

According to him, organic waste can be used as food for maggots, while inorganic waste is collected or made into innovative creations.

"This sorting and processing aims to reduce the amount of waste sent to the Bantar Gebang TPST," he continued.

Meanwhile, Head of North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency, Heria Suwandi stated Angke River in Kapuk Muara will be dredged soon.

He explained that dredging rivers and canals in border areas has become a top priority in preventing inundation and flooding in Jakarta.

"We have also run dredging in several areas, which is currently ongoing. In fact, the pump house is also on standby," he stated.
