Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, ensures the welfare of animals at Ragunan Zoo following a viral video on social media showing the concerning condition of a tiger.

Sri Deli's condition is very healthy

During his visit, Pramono saw the tiger enclosure named Sri Deli and checked its health condition. The tiger, which had gone viral, is now healthy and fat.

"Now, Sri Deli's condition is very healthy, and friends have already seen firsthand that she is very healthy," he expressed, at Ragunan Zoo, South Jakarta, Thursday (11/20).

He suspects that the video of the skinny tiger circulating and causing public concern was likely taken during the Covid-19 pandemic, around 2021-2022, which led to delays in food supply.

The governor also firmly denied the accusations that the animal feed at Ragunan was taken home by the staff, leading to animals lacking nutrition.

"Our concern is about food or feed. Hence, I ask the Agency Head to continuously check on this to ensure that the allegations being circulated are not true," he explained.

Pramono ensured that the feeding process at Ragunan was closely monitored and that there was a designated responsible party. He did not want the animals' food to be neglected, which could impact their welfare and health.

"I also ask the person responsible for the feed not to let the feed be neglected or lacking as has been alleged all this time," he explained.

He mentioned that there are 18 Sumatran tigers and 14 Bengal tigers at Ragunan. He also conveyed Ragunan's efforts to revamp with a new concept and modern design.

This step is to maximize functions and increase public interest in visiting Ragunan. One of them is by opening Ragunan Zoo at night every Saturday, where the average number of visitors ranges from 35,000 to 40,000.

"Alhamdulillah (thank God), until today, the total number of visitors every Saturday has reached 14,794 people," he stated.
