Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno, emphasized the importance of the role of education in building the character of the next generation to be honest, integrity-driven, and unafraid to reject dishonesty in a bid to realize a healthy society.

Trust is the foundation of a modern nation

He emphasized this statement when he opened and delivered a speech at the International Seminar - Fraud Awareness Week 2025 at Kalbis University in the Multifunction Hall, Kalbis University, Jalan Pulomas Selatan, Kayu Putih Urban Village, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, Monday (11/17).

He hopes that the theme of transparency and accountability through fraud education is not just a matter of conscience, but a lesson for everyone to understand how a healthy society is built through trust, and trust can only grow if integrity is maintained.

Despite practically, fraud is more common in the financial sector, he reminds us that fraud will also impact various aspects of social community.

"Today, we meet in a setting that, for me, is more than just a seminar. It is a pause amid the hustle and bustle of the big city to guide us back to something simple, but often overlooked, that trust is the foundation of a modern nation," he explained.

The role of the education sector is important in building strong human character and not just about having skills. Hence, Governor Pramono Anung emphasized that he would not cut the education budget, especially aid programs like Smart Jakarta Card (KJP) and Superior Jakarta Student Card (KJMU), even though City Budget (APBD) has decreased by more than Rp 14 trillion due to the reduction in revenue sharing funds (DBH) from the central government.

The commitment to education is because they understand that human resources are a valuable asset and capital in realizing Jakarta as a top global city.

Rano is mentioned, noting that Jakarta's ranking has improved from 74th to 71st among the top global cities. During his leadership alongside Pramono, they have provided lessons on maintaining commitments to improving the quality of human resources and transparency as key factors.

He went on to say that with a population of nearly 11 million people and contributing more than 16 percent to Indonesia's economy, Jakarta is home to a major energy. He said, this major energy can drive many things, but it is also easily shaken if left without ethics.

Therefore, he believes that the world of education, especially higher education, plays a significant role in shaping character so that students can learn to understand the importance of ethics. As a result, they realize that integrity is not just a complement to a curriculum vitae, but the foundation of public trust.

He asserted, an honest city can only be born from honest residents. This is where higher education institutions, including Kalbis University, play an irreplaceable role, which is equipping the younger generation with the ability to work honestly even when not observed and to make honest decisions even when not calculated.

"Hopefully, this forum won't only increase knowledge but also sharpen awareness that every small honest action is a contribution to a greater future," he closed.
