Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung welcomed hundreds of students from HighScope Indonesia School at Balairung, Jakarta City Hall, on Wednesday (11/12).
"That spirit and willpower will determine who you become and where you go, "
During the visit, Pramono shared inspiring stories about the power of having big dreams in achieving success.
"This is an international-standard school. So of course, the expectations from parents, from you all as students, and most importantly from the public and the nation for you are very high," he conveyed.
He encouraged the students not to hesitate in setting life goals. He then shared a story about his childhood dreams and the determination that helped change his life.
"That spirit and willpower will determine who you become and where you go. I once prayed, 'God, I wish to see Monas again.' That prayer grew into a strong dream that guided me," he recounted.
His dreams eventually led him to a long career in government. For that reason, he encouraged the students to also dream big about their future.
Pramono also hoped the students would grasp the real-world issues and challenges currently faced by the nation. He highlighted that as governor, one of his key duties is to serve not only Jakarta residents but also about four million commuters from neighboring areas, particularly concerning transportation.
In addition, Jakarta still faces major challenges such as traffic congestion, pollution, and flooding.
"People who work in Jakarta, whether they come from Tangerang, Depok, Bekasi, or Bogor, return home in the evening. They are also the responsibility of the Jakarta government, which must provide adequate transportation," he said.
