The implementation of the Kaki Lima Night Market which is usually held every weekend is forced to be stopped until an undetermined time due to funds from 2014 City Budget (APBD) has not been issued. The policy came from Jakarta Vice Governor, Basuki T Purnama.
"Such condition has been estimated before. Moreover, there are costs incurred for the event, such as tent installation, transportation, and electricity. That`s why Mr. Basuki asks me to temporarily stop the implementation of the Kaki Lima Night Market," said Joko Kundaryo, Head of Jakarta Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperatives Department (KUMKMP) at City Hall, Friday (2/14).
Such policy is imposed since January 2014. Yet, he cannot tell when the event could be held back. "We predict the event can be reheld in the fourth month, but we cannot be sure it," he told.
Nevertheless, his party will not stay silent. While waiting for the issued 2014 APBD, KUMKMP Department is conducting an auction for the event. This year, its implementation handed over to event organization (EO). In addition, data collection was also conducted against street vendors (PKL). This is because the committee replaces the participants once every two months to give the opportunity for other vendors.
"We`re currently focusing on auction for the event organization," he expressed.
This year, more than Rp 11 billion budgeted for 52 times of the event implementation. In each event, its fund reaches Rp 80 million. The fund is more efficient than last year, which was Rp 150 million. For this year, KUMKMP Department has had its own tent. While the amount of participant in the event is the same as previous event or reaching 400 street vendors.
He added that there would be a new concept in cooperation with Tourism and Culture Department. Later on, there will be a combination, not only transaction but also a side of entertainment. "Besides culinary, shopping and fashion, we also combine the event with art. Performing art, is cooperating with Tourism Department and campuses," he finished.
