Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno served as the inspector during this year’s Youth Pledge Day ceremony, held at the Jakarta City Hall Courtyard on Tuesday (10/28).
"...unity is not a gift, but a conscious decision,"
In his remarks, Rano called on residents and young generations to emulate the spirit of unity by youths in 1928. He emphasized that unity is a decision that must be continuously fought for.
"I want to all of us to learn from the youth of 1928 that unity is not a gift, but a conscious decision," he asserted.
Rano shared that the value of unity is a result of a long process that must be continuously upheld and remains a crucial foundation for building the nation's future.
On this occasion, he also reminded the younger generation not to fear dreaming and to be willing to work hard to make those dreams a reality.
He affirmed that the Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to nurturing resilient youth as future leaders.
Therefore, he added, the government has implemented various programs to support youth development, such as the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP), Jakarta Excellent Student Card (KJMU), and other initiatives.
Rano also mentioned that Jakarta will soon host the 17th National Student Sports Week (POPNAS) and the 11th National Student Paralympic Week (PEPAPERNAS) in early November 2025. He expressed hope that student athletes from Jakarta will achieve outstanding results in both events.
"Let us warmly welcome our fellow citizens from across Indonesia coming to Jakarta. Hopefully, we will succeed not only as hosts but also in achieving great performance," he conveyed.
