Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno, affirmed his intention to make Jakarta the fashion hub of Asia when he attended the opening of Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2026 at the Hall City Pondok Indah Mall (PIM) 3, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, yesterday night.
We will continue to support Jakarta Fashion Week
"We will continue to support Jakarta Fashion Week. Hope this will be the foundation for us to face Jakarta as it will be 500 years old in 2027," he expressed.
He explained about Jakarta's position, which is currently ranked 71st among the top global cities.
"That achievement has surpassed several cities in Southeast Asia like Manila. Therefore, I want to make Jakarta the fashion hub of Asia," he asserted.
He believes that collaborative efforts would be able to realize and continue to promote the city's top global ranking in accordance with the targets set during Jakarta's five-century celebration.
"Therefore, I challenge Ms. Svida and friends to showcase fashion in celebration of Jakarta's five hundred years," he asserted.
JFW 2026 Chairwoman, Svida Alisjahbana, explained that the event has been routinely held for the past 18 years. It involves more than 100 local and international designers, showcasing over 1,500 fashion products.
Besides showcasing a variety of fashion designs, this event, which runs until November 2, 2025, includes a series of activities such as model searches, fashion designer competitions, and awards for makeup artists and hairdressers.
"Hopefully, this can help our designer penetrate the international market," she hoped
