Dozens of fishing enthusiasts from various regions enliven the Fishing Festival 2025 competition on Sabira Island, Harapan Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands Sub-district. This festival is part of the promotion of the unique tourism of Sabira Island.

The event was very lively

Harapan Island Urban Village Head, Muhammad Yusuf expressed full appreciation and support for the Fishing Festival initiated by Sabira Island Karang Taruna Young Organization, as it can introduce the culture of Sabira Island and its fishing tourism potential.

"Alhamdulillah (thank God), the event was very lively and enthusiastically received by the participants and residents. They were not only from Jakarta, but also from outside Jakarta," he expressed, Sunday (9/21).

He believes that this festival can also strengthen and solidify the bonds of friendship between the general public and the locals.

He hoped this could continue sustainably to improve marine tourism destinations in Seribu Islands, especially Sabira Island.

"Besides the competition, there are musical entertainment events, traditional dances, and MSME bazaars that can support the local community's economy," he explained.

Fishing Festival Chair, Gunawan, explained that the fishing competition held from September 20 to 21 was participated in by 64 contestants.

"I am grateful that the event went smoothly despite the weather being less friendly, but the participants still looked enthusiastic and happy," he stated.

He added participants are given the search area for fish, which is the west and east sides of Sabira Island.

"Winners are also categorized, namely the heaviest and largest fish. Even, there is a jackpot category for participants who manage to catch the heaviest Barracuda," he explained.

At the end of the event, releasing hatchlings or juvenile Hawksbill turtles together was held as an environmental awareness action, as well as to leave a positive impression and a memorable experience for the participants.

He expressed appreciation and gratitude to the Seribu Islands Regency administration, the donors, and the participants who supported and enlivened the Sabira Island Fishing Festival 2025.

"Insya Allah (God willing), this will become an annual routine agenda. Next year, we will aim for even more participants," he hoped.

Meanwhile, one of the participants, Rochman Mutaqin (52), admitted to being very enthusiastic and eager to participate in the competition, even though he had to travel quite far from Muara Angke Port.

"Fishing is one of my hobbies. I am very proud to have gone fishing on the outermost island of Jakarta. I successfully caught a Baronang weighing 6.24 kilograms," he closed.
