The Jakarta Provincial Government and the Kinshasa City Government, Democratic Republic of Congo, on Thursday (9/18), signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) on friendship in the environment and climate, economy and infrastructure, training and youth, and urban resilience sectors.
in line with Jakarta's grand vision to become one of the top 20 inclusive global cities
This cooperation agreement was signed by Deputy Jakarta Governor Rano Karno and Governor of Kinshasa Daniel Bumba Lubaki, on the sidelines of the Jakarta International Investment, Trade, Tourism and SME Expo (JITEX) 2025 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JCC) Building, Central Jakarta
Rano said the cooperation agreement signing is a follow-up to the visit of the Governor of Kinshasa to Jakarta City Hall in July 2025.
"This also reminds us about the spirit of solidarity of the 1955 Asia Africa Conference which lives on to this day," Rano said.
As metropolitan cities and centers of national activity, Rano added, Jakarta and Kinshasa play a crucial role in their respective countries. Both also face similar challenges, such as rapid urbanization, the climate crisis, and the sustainable development agenda.
Rano hopes the two cities can share experiences and create joint solutions to realize the vision of collaborative public services through this collaboration.
"This partnership is in line with Jakarta's grand vision to become one of the top 20 inclusive global cities," Rano added.
Specifically, he also hopes that the collaboration will bring tangible benefits to Jakarta and Kinshasa, particularly in the environment, climate, economy, youth, and urban resilience sectors.
"Hopefully this partnership will be a bridge of friendship between the two cities and their people, and open up real opportunities for mutual progress," he hoped.
