Some 1,714 stray and pet cats in East Jakarta have been sterilized from January to September 14, 2025.

East Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-agency (KPKP) Head, Taufik Yulianto said, this sterilization would keep being intensified to control the rapidly growing cat population.
"We provide a door-to-door service and use the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) method for stray cats," he expressed, Monday (9/15).
He explained, the cat sterilization also involved the UPT Center for Animal and Livestock Health Services (Pusyankeswannak), as well as non-governmental organizations and cat-loving communities, such as the Indonesian Environment Care Foundation (YPLI) and Lets Adopt.
"The sterilizations we have conducted from January to September 14 consisted of 1,319 males and 395 females," he explained.
East Jakarta Maintenance and Health Section Head, Theresia Ellita added, this year's sterilization program aimed to target 2,000 cats.
"Our target is already approximately 85.7 percent. We're optimistic that we can achieve the set target. Because in commemorating World Rabies Day on September 20, we aim to sterilize 400 pet and stray cats," he explained.
He added, the door-to-door service would continue to be intensified, especially by adjusting to the residents' requests.
"Cats are also one of the animals that can transmit rabies. Besides sterilization, we also do rabies vaccination to ensure the animals are healthy and humans are better protected," he stated.
