Jakarta City Council's Commission D Chairwoman, Yuke Yurike supports the new name of Senen Sentral Bus Stop into Jaga Jakarta Bus Stop after the public facility was damaged during recent demonstrations.
We must protect our public facilities
According to Yuke, the new name is expected to be a symbol of residents' awareness to work together to maintain public facilities.
"We must protect our public facilities. The city council fully supports the efforts to protect public facilities to ensure the public service," she said, Monday (9/8).
She also invited all residents to take responsibility for maintaining public facilities to avoid damage due to mass actions.
Meanwhile, Jakarta City Council's Commission B member, Ismail said the act of destroying public facilities actually harms the lower classes who rely on public transportation every day.
"When public facilities are damaged, it's harming the common people. We all use the public facilities," he said.
Ismail appreciated the Jakarta Provincial Government's swift action in repairing damaged bus stops and other facilities, so that residents could quickly return to normal activities.
"Don't let them become disappointed and switch to other modes. Public transportation service must continue," he added.
He stated that the City Council has never prohibited demonstrations in Jakarta. However, he emphasized that all parties must maintain order and public facilities.
