Indonesian Independence Day Celebration, 1,800 Cleaning Personnel Deployed

The Jakarta Environmental Agency prepares 1,800 cleaning personnel to ensure the cleanliness of the city during the commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence series on August 16-17, 2025.

A festive celebration without leaving a trail of trash

Personnel are divided into two shifts at crowded areas starting from the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, Monas, City Hall, and up to the carnival route in Sudirman-Thamrin area.

Jakarta Environmental Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto, said his side also deploys supporting fleets namely 20 toilet cars, 14 road sweepers, 12 compactor trucks, 12 inorganic trucks, 65 dustbins, and hundreds of plastic bags.

"This big event requires extra preparation, not only the number of personnel, but also the fleet placement strategy and waste management during the event," he said, Friday (8/15).

The series of events begin on the evening of August 16th with a Roll Call of Honor and Sacred Reflection at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery. It will be attended by the President and Vice President.

On August 17, activities to be run are national-level ceremony at Monas, provincial-level ceremony at City Hall, People's Party at Monas, and carnival from the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout to Semanggi Bridge. The crowded spots for the carnival are Monas, Sarinah, Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, Dukuh Atas, and Sampoerna Strategic Square.

Asep explained that personnel to be deployed also from all sub-agencies and technical management units. Central Jakarta deploys 400 personnel, North Jakarta 200 personnel, West Jakarta 200 personnel, South Jakarta 200 personnel, and East Jakarta deploys 200 personnel.

Then the Water Body Waste Management Unit deploys 500 personnel and Integrated Waste Management Unit deploys 100 personnel.

According to him, the sanitation facilities to be deployed at various locations. Ten mobile toilets are located at Monas, three in front of Kempinski Hotel, three in front of the Pullman Hotel, two at Sumenep Park, one at Dukuh Atas and one at Sampoerna Strategic.

"Street sweeping vehicles are focused on the area inside Monas and along the carnival route," he added.

Moreover, the agency also prepares personnel along the MSMEs tents both in the inside of Monas (Silang Selatan, Silang Timur, and Silang Barat), and outside Monas such as Jalan Sunda, Jalan Pamekasan, Jalan Tanjung Karang, Jalan Galunggung, Jalan Karet Pasar Baru Timur III, and Wisma Danantara.

"A festive celebration without leaving a trail of trash is the main goal. We want people to leave with a positive impression," he stated.
