Jakarta Transportation Agency is developing application-based electronic parking system namely JakParkir as part of parking management in Jakarta.
allows people to plan their parking via mobile phone
This program is expected to be a solution to increase the efficiency of parking space use and reduce congestion due to illegal parking.
The JakParkir system allows users to search for nearby parking spaces, reserve a spot before arriving, and pay directly via e-wallet or QRIS. Users will also receive notifications about their parking times.
Jakarta Transportation Agency Head, Syafrin Liputo said JakParkir is part of Jakarta's grand vision as a digital city, as well as a strategic step in regulating illegal parking, optimizing on-street parking spaces, and reducing congestion in densely populated areas.
"The grand design allows people to plan their parking via mobile phone as the booking feature will be available at all locations. We want Jakartans to be able to plan their parking locations before they leave, even if it's on-street parking," he said, Monday (8/4).
Parking attendants who previously worked on a cash basis are also still involved in this new system, but now they serve as handheld device operators.
The JakParkir application applies progressive parking rates according to parking time/duration. Motorbikes parking rate is Rp 2,000 per hour while for cars it is Rp 5,000 per hour.
JakParkir program is being trialed on Jalan Pegambiran and Jalan Cikini Raya.
The agency is targeting to fully run the program on 244 roads up to 2027.
"We expect Jakarta residents will be familiar with this system and actively participate in the city's transformation process heading to more modern, transparent, and efficient traffic management," he hoped.
