Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Agency (KPKP) and PKK throughout Jakarta, held a simultaneous hybrid planting event across the entire Jakarta area with six main planting points representing five cities and one regency.

The most important thing is not just planting, but also how we care for it

This activity themed "Realizing Self-Sufficient Food Families" is part of the Jakarta Government's efforts to promote family food security and environmental conservation.

The main locations for implementation included Dahlia Urban Farming Park in RW 07 (Central Jakarta), Walkotfarm at West Jakarta City Hall, Rawajaya RPTRA (East Jakarta), complex of Arhanud Aku Hatinya PKK Bougenville Kartika (South Jakarta), Gangnam Pegangsaan Dua Garden (North Jakarta), and Hatinya PKK Park at Mitra Praja Building in Sunter (Seribu Islands).

There are around thousands of participants from various groups, including members, PKK, offices, RPTRAs, farming groups, gardening classes, trainees, and general public.

On that occasion, they planted 26,000 seedlings, consisting of chili, tomato, eggplant, toga (family medicinal plants), and various other productive plants.

Jakarta PKK Movement Team Expert, Dewi Indriati Rano Karno uttered that besides supporting urban farming, this also strengthens the active role of the community in maintaining food security in the city.

"The most important thing is not just planting, but also how we care for it sincerely. By doing so, the plants can grow lushly, yield abundant harvests, and ultimately be used for the needs of the family and the surrounding community," he explained.

Jakarta KPKP Agency Head, Hasudungan Sidabolak uttered, this simultaneous planting is not only symbolic but also part of a joint strategic step in realizing food security and supporting the food self-sufficiency program in Jakarta.

"We also want to encourage residents to actively engage in urban farming, making productive use of available land, yards, and spaces," he explained.

He hoped this would serve as an educational medium for the general public that planting and caring for plants are part of concrete solutions in facing food challenges and inflation.

With cross-sector synergy, from PKK, RPTRA, farmer groups, to the general public, it is possible to build a resilient and independent urban food ecosystem.

"Hopefully, the family's food security in Jakarta will keep improving, with their food needs met independently, encouraging the utilization of land and space for urban farming. Equally important, inflation, especially on strategic commodities, can be controlled through harvests that are directly enjoyed by the community itself," he uttered.
