To celebrate Jakarta's 498th anniversary, murals and umbul-umbul (decorative flags) are being made on 11 residential islands in Seribu Islands.

Seribu Islands Regency UKT 2 Head, Sofyan said, efforts to beautify and decorate the Seribu Islands have been ongoing since early June until now.

"This is done by planting plants and trees, putting up umbul-umbul, decorative lights, and creating murals," he expressed, Thursday (6/19).

He hoped that this could further enhance the awareness and sense of belonging of residents towards Jakarta.

"We want the people here to feel more proud and in love with Jakarta," he hoped.

It was also aimed at attracting more tourists to visit the Seribu Islands.

"Of course, they will be interested in visiting if the environment is beautiful, attractive, and comfortable," he added.

He added umbul-umbul were installed at every pier, county office, sub-district, urban village, and residential area.

Government offices were also beautified with ornamental plants. For instance, at the Seribu Islands Transit Office and the Mitra Praja Building in Sunter, which have become more attractive with various ornamental plants and paintings of ships.

"I invite all residents to decorate their yards, as well as homestay and restaurant owners. Let's celebrate city's anniversary towards five centuries by making Jakarta a growing and transforming global city," he added.

One of the locals from RT 03/04, Pramuka Island, Panggang Island Urban Village, Anto (46) admitted, he had decorated his coffee shop to welcome Jakarta's anniversary.

"I decorated my shop with ornaments to make it more festive and lively," he admitted.

He also appreciated the Seribu Islands Regency administration for beautifying the area. Not only did they put up umbul-umbul, but they also beautified the walls with murals and painted the sidewalks with colorful paint.

"Currently, Pramuka Island is also being beautified, especially in front of the square which looks beautiful and colorful," he said.
