The workshop was attended by 40 participants who have an interest in local art and culture.
Central Jakarta Pusip Sub-agency Head, Wahyu Prabowo said this activity promoted Betawi Batik as a medium of cultural expression and a means of strengthening visual literacy in society.
"Betawi batik has specific motifs such as ondel-ondel, traditional houses, and local flowers which are introduced as works of art and forms of cultural narrative that record the identity and life of Jakarta people," Wahyu said.
Wahyu added that his side presented a resource person from the Terogong Betawi Batik Community, Siti Laela, who provided material about the meaning and philosophy behind the Betawi Batik motifs.
Participants were also invited to get the opportunity to make batik with guidance from facilitators, starting from the canting process to simple coloring.
"This activity provides direct experience while encouraging appreciation for the process and values contained in each piece of batik cloth," he added.
According to him, this workshop reaffirmed the commitment of his ranks to make literacy an inclusive movement that touches various aspects of life, including cultural heritage.
"The Betawi Batik Workshop is a form of library program innovation that not only builds skills, but also strengthens the identity and pride of Jakarta residents in their own city's culture," he stated.
