A total of 200 blue troops personnel from South Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency were deployed to dredge mud sediment and waste from Cabang Tengah River, Jalan Mochamad Kahfi II, Ciganjur Urban Village, Jagakarsa Sub-district.
"We dredge the mud sediment and waste up to 80 centimeters,"
South Jakarta SDA Sub-agency Head, Santo, explained that the dredging is being carried out to address residents' concerns regarding flooding caused by the overflowing Cabang Tengah River, whether due to local rainfall or upstream water flow.
"Today, we are dredging the segment from Pintu Pitung to Nurul Amanah Islamic Boarding School," he mentioned, on Friday (5/2).
He revealed that the 1,077-meter-long dredging of Cabang Tengah River is also assisted by 20 local PPSU personnel.
"To speed up the dredging process, we also deployed 2 spider excavators, as well as 10 dump trucks to transport the mud sediment and waste," he added.
According to him, Cabang Tengah River is being dredged due to siltation which has reduced its capacity. As a result, during rainfall, water often overflows onto roads and residential areas in Srengseng Sawah and Ciganjur Urban Villages.
"We dredge the mud sediment and waste up to 80 centimeters," he stated.
For information, the dredging which commenced on May 1, 2025, is targeted for completion by July 30.
"This dredging is expected to resolve flooding issues in the local area," he asserted.
Observing Tengah Connecting Channel's existing condition, Santo called on residents to dispose of trash properly and not to throw it into drainage channels, whether micro or macro.
"Today, we see various waste collected from Cabang Tengah River, from large spring mattress, wood, bamboo, clothing, and plastic waste. This condition leads to sedimentation and obstructs water flow, potentially causing flooding," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Jagakarsa Sub-district Deputy Head, Teguh Arifiyanto, appreciated the dredging work initiated by South Jakarta SDA Sub-agency.
Through the dredging, Teguh hopes Jalan Mochamad Kahfi II and several flood-prone points near Cabang Tengah River, including in RW 08, Srengseng Sawah Urban Village, can be addressed well.
"As the local government, along with urban village and community leaders, we will continue to educate residents not to dispose of waste into drainage channels and rivers," he said.
