Dozens of joint officers were deployed in Gerebek Sampah (cleanup action) around the waters of Untung Jawa Island, South Seribu Islands, Seribu Islands.

Untung Jawa Island Urban Village Head, Sidartawan said that entering the rainy season, the water conditions in his area received a lot of garbage carried by streams and rivers in Jakarta and the surrounding areas.

"This garbage comes from rivers in Tangerang, Muara Angke, and Kamal. We're synergizing with the Environment Sub-dept to handle this garbage," he expressed, Thursday (11/30).

In this action, as many as 79 personnel were deployed to the location. They consisted of 45 personnel of PPSU, 26 personnel of Environment Sub-dept, and four personnel of RPTRA and BKSDA.

The types of garbage transported from these waters included pieces of wood, bamboo, plastic packaging, cans, and styrofoam. So, residents were urged to always maintain a clean environment by not littering.

"Including tourists," he explained.

Community Role and Legal Arrangement Division Head, Riza Lestari Ningsih added the garbage transported from Taman Arsa Beach and Untung Jawa Island's main pier was recorded at 21,984 kilograms.

"There are also four other points affected, consisting of Kuala BKSDA Barat, Pantau Pujasera, ship docking, and Labuh Pond," he explained.

Every day, the personnel checked and cleaned up garbage from the coast to the middle of the sea. Usually, the waste was collected first at the Waste Disposal Site (TPS), then sorted and even dried.
