They are selected Jakpreneurs after going through curation process
HKI can be obtained by Jakpreneurs who have passed curation from various sectors, such as culinary, fashion, performing arts, music, film, travel agents, product design, make-up and photography.
Jakarta Parekraf Agency Acting Head (Plt), Gumilar Ekalaya stated, 100 Jakpreneurs who will be facilitated to obtain HKI have participated in technical guidance which divided in two batches.
"They are selected Jakpreneurs after going through curation process which is participated by 3,600 active Jakpreneurs," he explained, Tuesday (8/3).
First batch technical guidance was held on July 29, 2021 which was attended by 56 participants. While the second batch held on August 2, 2021 was attended by 44 participants.
"They are given material on brand introduction as HKI, procedures for registration and filling brand form," he added.
According to him, there were many people involved in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) who needed assistance related to brand thus they don't cause problems.
There are assumptions that brand protection doesn't have significant impact, requires large cost, and long process thus make MSMEs less concerned to register their brands.
"In fact, it can cause disadvantage to MSMEs. Therefore benefits of branding should be socialized more intensively to increase their awareness to register their brands. It is needed to protect brand owners from misuse of brands carried out by irresponsible parties and to develop their brands," he said.
He assessed that brand is very important for MSMEs because it shows identity of product or service. Brand can also distinguish one product from another.
Moreover, he continued, brands are important as tool and marketing strategy to build image and reputation of a product. The right to a brand can also be licensed or franchised thus it becomes a direct source of income in form of royalties.
"Brands can also be very valuable business asset and increase revenue. Because of those many benefits, brand should be registered. Besides, MSME's brand should be registered because it is an intellectual property rights that has economic value," he mentioned.
He added, MSME must register their brand to protect them if there are people or other parties who oppose and take the brand by registering it.
"Registering HKI also simplifies transfer and licensing process. If you want to expand business, such as franchise, using HKI will make it easier for its license since it meets legal aspects," he closed.
