27 Gulkarmat Personnel Deployed to Help Search for Sriwijaya Air Victims

As many as 27 personnel from North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire Handling and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-agency helped to search for victims of Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 on Jakarta-Pontianak route that crashed in Thousand Islands waters.

12 of those 27 personnel are certified divers

North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Gulkarmat Sub-agency Head, Rahmat Kristantio conveyed, his side deployed 8 personnel from North Thousand Islands Gulkarmat Sector 7 Unit and 19 personnel from South Thousand Islands Sector 8 Unit.

"12 of those 27 personnel are certified divers. 4 divers from Sector 7 Unit and others from Sector 8 Unit," he explained, Monday (1/11).

He mentioned that all coordination of this rescue was done under coordination of National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).

"All activities, such as searching for victims and finding items, including parts of the plane, are coordinated directly to Basarnas. We are only helping," he added.

According to him, diver team will search around Laki Island's Kait Cape, South Thousand Islands.

"We build post on Lancang Island, which is not far from the searching point, to make it easier for coordination and changing shift between Gulkarmat personnel," he stated.
