KPKP Educates Fishermen who Use Prohibited Fishing Gear

Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture, and Food Security (KPKP) Department and Thousand Islands KPKP Sub-department collaborated to train several fishermen who were captured while fishing using nets which prohibited in Thousand Islands.

In this patrol, we are targeting the use of prohibited fishing gear, violations of licensing and fishing routes

Jakarta KPKP Department's Sea Division Head, Rita Nirmala conveyed, her side together with Kelapa Island Urban Village side, Satpol PP, sub-district, and elders were on patrol for two days, night and day, to follow up resident's report.

"In this patrol, we are targeting the use of prohibited fishing gear, violations of licensing and fishing routes," he mentioned, Monday (3/2).

During the patrol, her side found 6 boats that violate the regulations consisting of 2 boats used trawl (cantrang) and 4 boats used lift net for squid fishing.

According to her, those fishing gears are prohibited from being used in Thousand Islands since it has the potential to damage the coral reefs.

"We educate and train the fishermen that we've caught," she closed.
