Jakarta Government is ready to build synergy with Foreign Affairs Ministry and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide temporary shelter for asylum seekers from Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen who are camped out on the sidewalk of Jalan Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta.

We are ready to give humanitarian aid for them

Acting Jakarta Governor (Plh), Saefullah mentioned that his side is still waiting for the meeting result between Foreign Affairs Ministry and UNHCR.

"We are ready to give humanitarian aid for them while waiting for clarification from UNHCR Indonesia," he asserted, Thursday (7/10).

Regarding temporary shelter that he mentioned, Saefullah recommends Ex-Kodim Building in Kalideres, West Jakarta, to accommodate the refugees.

"If possible, we want to bring them closer to Jakarta Immigration Detention Center in Kalideres, West Jakarta," he added.

Until this time, his side is not sure when those refugees can be moved to Kalideres. But he hopes its decision can be carried out as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Council (DPRD) Chairman, Prasetio Edi Marsudi visited those asylum seekers on Tuesday (7/9) night.

Through this visit, he hopes all related sides can provide temporary shelter for them before their departure to other countries.
