Psychosocial Team trains disaster victims about micro business in temporary shelter (Huntara) of Tondo Urban Village, Mantikulore, Palu, Central Sulawesi.

We want to empower them to be more independent thus their welfare can be improved

There are 20 local residents who were trained to cook and sell nasi bakar (grilled rice) and chocolate balls.

"We choose those menus because its ingredients are easily to get," mentioned one of Psychosocial team members, Ida Listiana, Monday (4/29).

Nasi bakar is usually sold with price Rp 15,000-Rp 20,000 and chocolate balls with price Rp 3,000-Rp 5,000. Participants sell those dishes in their neighborhood or cooperate with local government to provide consumption for meeting.

Jakarta BPBD's Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Division Head, Joko Indro wants this micro entrepreneurship training to help them improving their economy after disaster.

"We want to empower them to be more independent thus their welfare can be improved," he stated.

Rosni (50) participated in this training. She likes to cook but she admitted this is her first time to cook nasi bakar and chocolate balls.

"Most volunteers come to give logistical assistance. This is the first time volunteer gives us training about micro business. It is very useful and makes me want to sell more dishes soon," she expressed.
