Commemorating the 44th Anniversary of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Jakarta Pavilion and Graha Wisata holds Ondel-ondel Festival in Jakarta Pavilion of TMII, East Jakarta.
This is held to preserve Betawi cultures
Head of Jakarta Pavilion and Graha Wisata, Fadlan Zuhran mentioned, there are 150 people from five regions of Jakarta who participate in this event. They compete to decorate Jakarta Pavilion in TMII with Ondel-ondel theme within 30 minutes. Their work will be assessed by juries from Betawi Cultural Institute for decorating. Besides, participants should also show their talents at Tugu Api Plaza on Sunday (4/21).
"This is held to preserve Betawi cultures," he added, Saturday (4/20).
Participants who have the best decorations and best performances will get money prizes, trophies, and certificates. First winner will get Rp 10 million, second will get Rp 7.5 million, and third will get 7.5 million.
Jakarta Ondel-ondel Community Leader, Yogi Ahmad appreciates the committee for their hard work in preserving Betawi cultures in public.
"We hope this event can
be held every year. We are proud to take a part in preserving Betawi cultures through this event," he expressed.
Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department's Cultural Art Division Head, Gumilar conveyed, this is the first Ondel-ondel Festival held in Jakarta.
"I see high public enthusiasm towards this event. We will try to hold this event once a year," he added.
