The sand trap dredging in East Flood Canal (KBT), Ujung Menteng Urban Village, Cakung, East Jakarta has touched 50 percent. To achieve target in September, heavy equipment has been sent to the location.

East Jakarta Water Resources Sub-dept. Head, Murtajab stated that there were previously six heavy equipments. And now two units have been sent to the field. It is done to increase the capacity of water debit and to prevent puddles in the capital.

"Dredging has touched 50 percent. It is targeted to be complete by the end of the upcoming September," he stated, Wednesday (7/11).

According to him, the land dredged is around 250x400 square meters width with 2.5 meters depth from target set of 5 meters. 

In the meantime, the total length of KBT itself is 23.5 kilometers with 100-200 meters width. Its location extends from Cipinang Besar Utara, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, until Marunda, Cilincing, North Jakarta. KBT is also completed by three sluice gates, namely in Malaka Sari Urban Village, Ujung Menteng Urban Village and Marunda Urban Village.

"Hopefully it is able to accommodate water in large quantities when it rains," he stated.
