The ongoing drainage channel revitalization on Jalan Ciawi, RW 07, Rawa Barat Urban Village, Kebayoran Baru Sub-district, South Jakarta is on track to finish by the end of November 2026.

The work aims to improve drainage capacity and prevent flooding during rainfall.

Kebayoran Sub-district Water Resources (SDA) Executing Unit Head Baru Sutopo stated that the revitalization was initiated in response to resident complaints regarding localized flooding caused by overflows from the narrow channel.

“To maximize efficiency, we also dredged mud and trash from the channel prior to construction, allowing the work to progress faster,” he expressed, Monday (10/26).

The project covers a 529-meter stretch, upgrading the channel with 60-to-80-centimeter U-ditch concrete channels handled by a third-party contractor.

“Thanks to favorable road access, we brought in an excavator to lift and position the heavy U-ditch segments, speeding up execution,” he added.

This project also aims to boost drainage capacity, smooth water runoff, and eliminate flooding, creating a more comfortable and well-maintained environment for the community.

“Work is currently around 55 percent complete. We apologize to residents for the temporary inconvenience and road access disruptions while construction is underway,” Sutopo added.

Rawa Barat Urban Village Head Merinta Hendri Purnomo explained that the work extends from Jalan Ciawi to Jalan Ciawi III, which serves as a major feeder road to Jalan Gunawarman.

He added flood in the area has long troubled both residents and motorists traveling through the busy corridor.

“We thank the city for acting on our community's request. Hope this action will effectively eliminate flooding,” Merinta stated.
