The East Jakarta Mayor, Munjirin, asked toad users to comply with traffic regulations on Jalan Raya PKP, Kelapa Dua Wetan Urban Village, Ciracas District following a drainage construction project.

Munjirin stated that the water channel is currently being constructed using the jacking method. Consequently, traffic engineering with an open-close system is being implemented.

Water channel being built

"We hope that road users will be more patient because there is a water channel being built to deal with flooding," he said, Friday (9/4).

Munjirin explained that the total length of the water channel is 406 meters. Based on the inspection, work is currently in its early stages, with construction progress of approximately 50 meters.

"Hopefully the work will run smoothly and will be effective in preventing flooding," he hoped.

Head Section of Development for East Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency, Tengku Saugi Zikri explained traffic engineering is applied at the starting pit and arrival pit installation points. Both are vertical holes used for access during the water channel construction process using the jacking method.

"Six flagmen or traffic control officers from the project implementer are prepared at the location," he explained.

The open-close system is implemented because the road is narrowed due to excavation for the construction of the starting pit and arriving pit.

"The depth of the excavation reaches around four to seven meters," he added.

Meanwhile, Project Implementer, Felix Alexandro Doloksaribu stated, the water channel construction work will last for 167 days, starting July 2 and is targeted for completion on December 15, 2026.

Felix continued, explaining that three starting pits are currently being constructed, each measuring 6x4 meters and approximately 4.3 meters deep. These pits will provide access for inserting a 1.5-meter-diameter water pipe.

During the work, the PKP road, which previously had two lanes, will narrow to one lane at the work point.

"The open-close system is implemented to regulate the flow of vehicles so that they can still pass," he stated.
