If you’re a fan of Indonesian cinema living around Pasar Rumput or Manggarai, your movie nights just got a whole lot easier! No more long commutes to catch the latest films—the Jakarta Kota Sinema (Jaksinema) Pasar Jaya is now officially open at the Pasar Rumput Flats.

This cozy mini-cinema, featuring a 43-seat studio seamlessly integrated with Jakmart, was inaugurated by Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno on Monday (8/24).

"This facility completes our endeavor to realize the 'Jakarta Kota Cinema' vision by providing accessible mini-cinemas dedicated to showcasing Indonesian films," he expressed.

By continuing this mini-cinema project, Jakarta is opening new doors for the public to celebrate homegrown talent while proving that the city is a fertile ground for the creative economy.

He emphasizes that when cinema is within reach, it does not just boost film; it empowers the entire creative spectrum—from music and design to crafts, photography, and digital tech.

"I am confident that strengthening these spaces will serve as a powerful catalyst for Jakarta’s creative industries," he continued.

Amidst a dynamic economic climate, Indonesian cinema continues to show strong resilience. According to data from Cinepoint and national film tracking services, total viewership for Indonesian films from January to July 2026 reached an impressive 40,711,772.

Of the 93 national films released, Rano noted that the Minister of Culture, during a press conference for the Indonesian Film Festival, revealed that the audience share for national films hit 67 percent in 2026. This growth underscores the high public demand for local productions.

"That's why Jak Cinema is coming closer to the residents—to provide high-quality Indonesian films at affordable prices," he concluded.

Beyond providing the community with easy access to Indonesian films, Rano envisions Jak Cinema as a spark for local inspiration. He hopes its presence at the Pasar Rumput Flats will ignite a passion for filmmaking among the youth, nurturing the next generation of Indonesian cineastes.

"I want our youth in these housing areas to have a place to channel their creativity. With a cinema in every complex, we provide not just fun, but also a space for the many talented young people living there to develop their skills," he added.

Perumda Pasar Jaya President Director, Agus Himawan Widyanto, announced that Jak Cinema is the latest entertainment venture poised for growth across multiple market locations in collaboration with Layar Digi. The new facility in Pasar Rumput is strategically situated in Tower 3, offering direct access to the Jakmart convenience store.

The cinema boasts a high-tech, digital-first approach; moviegoers can purchase tickets via QRIS-integrated vending machines for just Rp 15,000 to Rp 20,000. According to Widyanto, this project is more than just a business move.

"This is part of our commitment to diversifying our portfolio while bringing affordable entertainment to the people. It’s about transforming traditional markets into modern, integrated living spaces that resonate with the needs of modern Jakarta residents," he noted.
