Residents of RW 08 in Cempaka Baru, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, successfully collected approximately 1.2 tons of inorganic waste through waste sorting.

Head of Cempaka Baru Urban Village, Rahmat Hidayat said residents deposit inorganic waste, such as plastic bottles and cardboard, at the RW 08 Waste Bank twice a week, every Wednesday and Saturday.

"The RW 08 waste bank, established in 2018, has seen increased activity following the implementation of Gubernatorial Instruction No. 5 of 2026 regarding waste sorting at the source. A total of approximately 1 to 1.2 tons of waste is collected each month," he said, Thursday (8/13).

The plastic bottles and cardboard deposited by residents, Rahmat continued, are sold by the RW 08 waste bank administrators to collectors at the highest possible price.

"This approach is implemented to encourage residents of RW 08 to become more active in sorting waste, given the associated economic value," he added.

In RW 08, the sorting of inorganic waste has reached 100 percent, whereas similar efforts in six other RWs in the area stand at around 60 to 70 percent.

"We are currently focusing on guiding residents in RW 04 and 05 to actively implement the program of sorting waste," he continued.

Meanwhile, Nur Isnaeni (39), resident RT 08/08 Cempaka Baru, admitted that she deposits around five to 10 kilograms of inorganic waste at the neighborhood association's (RW) waste bank whenever weighing sessions are held.

"An increasing number of residents in the RT 08 neighborhood are contributing inorganic waste. Little by little, the money keeps growing," she admitted.
