Firefighters from the North Jakarta and Seribu Islands Fire and Rescue Sub-agency (Gulkarmat) successfully extinguished a fire that gutted a two-story residence on Jalan Agung Perkasa IV, Sunter Agung, Tanjung Priok, Wednesday (5/13).
Operations Head for the North Jakarta and Seribu Islands Gulkarmat Sub-agency, Gatot Sulaeman stated that the report was received from local residents at approximately 5:05 AM. The fire affected a building area of about 168 square meters.

"To ensure a rapid response, we immediately deployed nine fire engines and 45 personnel to the scene," he expressed, Wednesday (5/13).
He noted that prior to the arrival of the firefighters, security officers had attempted to suppress the flames using light fire extinguishers (APAR). However, the fire continued to spread rapidly, necessitating professional intervention.
According to the sub-agency's timeline, the first unit arrived at the location at 5:07 AM, and firefighting operations commenced at 5:17 AM. The blaze was successfully localized by 5:25 AM, followed by a cooling process that lasted until 5:52 AM.
"The fire was successfully brought under control, and the operation was officially declared complete at 6:20 AM. The fire is suspected to have been triggered by an electrical malfunction," he explained.
Tragically, four residents lost their lives in the incident: Bhagwan (78), Kashilya Bhagwan (77), Pishu Manwani (55), and Neetu Pesumal (50). Two other residents, identified as Lia (22) and Erli (27), survived but are currently suffering from shock.
"The deceased victims were all members of the same family. It is suspected they were trapped by thick smoke inside the house and were unable to escape in time," he added.
In light of the tragedy, Gatot urged the public to remain vigilant regarding fire hazards by routinely inspecting electrical installations and ensuring that electronic equipment meets safety standards to prevent short circuits.
The Sunter Agung Village Head confirmed the incident and expressed deep condolences to the victims' family. He also praised the fire department’s swift response, which prevented the flames from spreading to neighboring buildings.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Currently, the scene is being secured by the police for further investigation and processing," the Village Head concluded.
