Jakarta Council (DPRD) Commission B Chairman, Nova Harivan Paloh, has urged MRT Jakarta to improve its backup power systems at stations to prevent a repeat of the recent power outage incident.

lifts and escalators must be equipped with backup power systems

He said the incident underscores the need to strengthen standard operating procedures (SOPs) for backup power systems, particularly for vital facilities such as lifts and escalators.

"This is very important. Based on the explanation we received, there is still no adequate generator or backup power system, especially for critical facilities like lifts and escalators," Nova said on Monday (4/27).

He stressed that the situation must not be overlooked as it directly concerns passenger safety. According to him, MRT Jakarta needs to prepare clear and comprehensive mitigation measures.

"There must be clear mitigation. This is not limited to one station, but occurred at several MRT stations," he said.

Nova added that essential facilities such as lifts and escalators must be equipped with backup power systems so they can continue operating during outages.

He also urged MRT Jakarta management to immediately draw up plans to install generators as a precaution in critical areas.

"There must be clear mitigation, along with plans to install generators as a backup when power outages occur in highly critical areas such as escalators and lifts," he said.

He emphasized that passenger safety must remain the top priority in the management of public transportation, including MRT Jakarta.

"The main priority must be passenger safety," he emphasized.
