The Seribu Islands Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency is accelerating the construction of a coastal sea wall at Cikaya Beach, Karya Island, Panggang Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands Sub-district. The work is targeted for completion by next week.

Seribu Islands SDA Sub-agency's Beach Section Head, Wahyu Maulana, the project is a response to community suggestions made during the Development Planning Forum 2025 (Musrenbang).

"This sea wall is intended to break waves and prevent erosion from damaging the shoreline, while also improving security and convenience for locals and visitors alike," he added, Wednesday (4/22).

He explained that the sea wall construction is being conducted in phases. In the previous year, approximately 100 meters were completed. This year, the project continues with an additional 65 meters.

According to him, the structure is designed to be sturdy, utilizing massive concrete cubes in a three-to-two formation. This results in a height of about 1.2 meters and a width of approximately 80 centimeters.

"After the cubes are arranged, the next stage is concrete casting. This is done to reinforce the structure so the sea wall becomes sturdier, more stable, and well-finished," he explained.

He elaborated that the entire construction process is being conducted manually by 10 personnel, from transporting the massive cubes from Panggang Island to arranging them at the project site, supported by adequate working equipment.

"The work began in early April and is targeted for completion next week. Hopefully, this sea wall will provide a sense of security for residents and support tourism activities on Karya Island," he added.

This project received appreciation from RT 03/01, Panggang Island Urban Village Chair, Abdul Rohim.

He hoped that the sea wall would offer long-term value, safeguarding the coastline while boosting local tourism growth.

"This beach is a popular spot for tourists. We hope the sea wall will make the environment safer, more orderly, and more pleasant for everyone—both visitors and locals alike," he asserted.
