The Jakarta government conducted a crackdown on horror movie ads in three public areas after residents complained they were disturbing. The ads were located at Puri Kembangan, Daan Mogot Km 11, and the Harmoni Police Post.

Jakarta Governor Special Staff, Yustinus Prastowo, confirmed that the removal was a prompt effort to keep public spaces comfortable. The film ads, launched for National Film Day on April 2, 2026, sparked criticism for their frightening imagery and lack of child-friendliness.

All resident reports are handled swiftly and correctly

"There were two banner sites and one videotron. The Jakarta government will remain vigilant and ensure all resident reports are handled swiftly and correctly," he said in a statement to Beritajakarta on Sunday (4/5).

He noted that the Jakarta government had coordinated with several agencies beforehand to address the complaints. Working through the Diskominfotik, they partnered with Satpol PP and the advertising firms involved to take down the controversial ads.

He believes that public spaces should be safe, pleasant, and inclusive for all, including children. Consequently, any public communication material needs to consider standards of appropriateness and the psychological effects it may have on the community.

He stressed that the Jakarta government will not hesitate to take strict measures against any similar ads in the future. The crackdown is intended to ease public anxiety and preserve the order and quality of Jakarta’s public environment.

"We are maintaining ongoing coordination to monitor how the situation is being handled at other spots," he added.
