As many as eight personnel of Cipayung District's Water Resources Unit, East Jakarta completely dredged the water channel on Jalan Mabes Hankam, Bambu Apus Urban Village.
approximately 19-meter-long
Head of Cipayung District's Water Resources Unit, Dian Kartika said dredging was carried out because the channel was filled with thick mud sediment and rubbish.
"We have been dredging this approximately 19-meter-long channel since March 27. Thank God, it's finished today," she said.
Dian explained that sedimentation reaching a thickness of around 60 centimeters was the main cause of shallowing and blockages.
"This condition has the potential to trigger flooding, especially during heavy rain," she added.
According to her, dredging was hampered by the presence of inrit or permanent concrete channel covers made by residents.
"Many offices and businesses have inrits that don't meet standards or are easy to open and close. Therefore, we must dismantle them first," she explained.
Meanwhile, one of the local residents, Suwandi (49) appreciated the water channel dredging.
"There was often flooding with a height of 50 to 80 centimeters during heavy rain," he admitted.
He hopes that with the completion of the dredging, the surrounding area will no longer experience flooding because it can disrupt residents' activities.
