Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung responded to a grassroots initiative to paint a DIY zebra cross on Jalan Soepomo, Tebet.

He praised the residents' creative effort while offering an apology from the Jakarta government.

We will perfect the system to resolve this

"We apologize for the situation. I truly respect and thank the residents for their creativity," he stated, at City Hall, Wednesday (4/1).

Pramono promised to improve the JAKI app's complaint system, acknowledging that some resident reports have been filed repeatedly without being addressed. The Jakarta government is now committed to following up on those cases.

"During today’s meeting on JAKI, we identified several reports that remain unaddressed despite multiple submissions. We will perfect the system to resolve this," he expressed.

Despite praising the community's creative initiative for safety, Pramono stressed that crosswalks must be standardized according to national and international technical requirements.

"It was a positive creative effort. Nevertheless, we will refine the current setup on the ground to bring it back in line with established zebra crossing rules," he explained.

As previously reported, the Jakarta Highways Agency has finished upgrading two crosswalks on Jalan Soepomo, Tebet, South Jakarta, out of five targeted points in the Pancoran-Tebet corridor.

Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Head, Heru Suwondo confirmed that markings are now complete in front of Sahid University and opposite Kinderfield School.

He explained that the project adheres to safety standards and addresses the absence of crossings caused by late 2025 roadwork and sidewalk upgrades, which had buried previous markings under fresh asphalt.
