The Jakarta Environmental Agency has officially permanently closed the garbage dump at Tanah Kusir Public Cemetery, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta.
Head of Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto said this emplacement, which was established in 2014, is the first emplacement used in Jakarta.
the emplacement is as a temporary storage
"The function of the emplacement is as a temporary storage place for waste from rivers and water bodies, not household waste from residents," he said, Friday (3/27).
According to Asep, in one day a maximum of 12 cubic meters of waste from rivers and water bodies flowing in the Pesanggrahan, Kebayoran Baru and Kebayoran Lama Districts are transported by six mini dump trucks from the emplacement at Tanah Kusir Cemetery.
"The garbage at this site is collected every day," he added.
Asep emphasized that the closure demonstrates the government's commitment to maintaining environmental sustainability. However, the waste collected here is always collected within a single day.
"We will evaluate the presence of other emplacements and fencing around the site, or provide trash containers if the area is large enough. This aims to expedite waste management services in rivers, streams, and reservoirs," he explained.
With the closure of this location, waste disposal will be diverted to the TB Simatupang waste filtering area, which is more representative and allows for direct processing.
Even though the distance is quite far, Asep hopes that this will not hinder services to residents.
"We would like to thank the public for their feedback and suggestions regarding this incident. This serves as a learning experience for us as we continue to improve waste management in Jakarta," he stated.
