The North Jakarta City Government is moving quickly to anticipate the threat of tidal flooding and inundation in several coastal areas. This measure is being taken to ensure normal community activities, amidst predictions of high sea levels potentially occurring in April.

Head Section of Drainage Maintenance for North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency, Yudo Widiatmoko said based on BMKG predictions, the potential for tidal flooding is predicted to occur on April 19, 2026, with sea level reaching around 1.15 meters.

"Hopefully, everything will remain conducive and community activities will not be disrupted," he said, Thursday (3/26).

Several areas of North Jakarta are prone to tidal flooding. In Penjaringan District, vulnerable locations include Kapuk Raya, Muara Angke, Nizam Zachman Port, the Baywalk Pluit area, and the Pelindo Muara Baru embankment.

Furthermore, in Pademangan District, flooding is common on Jalan Lodan Raya, North Ancol Timur, and Jalan Ketel Uap. In Cilincing District, areas to be wary of include Marunda Pulo and Marunda Makmur, particularly around MTs Al Kasyaf.

"In Tanjung Priok and Koja Districts, the flood-prone areas are on Jalan RE Martadinata and Jalan Arteri Kali Sunter," he added.

He continued that to anticipate the potential for tidal flooding, various strategic measures have been prepared. These efforts include building and raising embankments, dredging river mud, installing emergency embankments at several locations, and operating water pumps in various vulnerable locations.

"We have also prepared 150 Blue Troop personnel on standby, 20 floating pump units, 16 mobile pump units, and eight pump stations complete with operators," he explained.

Meanwhile, North Jakarta Deputy Mayor, Fredy Setiawan emphasized the importance of direct field inspections to ensure readiness for tidal flood management.

He instructed all relevant Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) to take concrete action and accelerate disaster data synchronization.

"Schedule a visit immediately to see the preventive measures, from the readiness of rubber boats to the progress of mitigation embankment construction and channel cleaning, such as in the RE Martadinata, Penjaringan, and Muara Karang areas," he stated.

In addition to physical readiness, Fredy requested that protocol routes remain functional during high tides and heavy rain. Main road access must not be disrupted by flooding.

"Anticipating the main routes is crucial. We must ensure that the anticipation measures are effective," he added.

Fredy also asked urban village and district officials to actively remove obstructions in water channels that could potentially cause blockages. This effort is considered crucial to smoothing water flow during increased discharge.

"We hope this step will minimize the social and economic impacts on the people of North Jakarta who have often been affected by tidal flooding, while also increasing our preparedness to face extreme weather conditions," he stated.
