Central Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency carried out repairs on a collapsed retaining wall along a tributary of the Ciliwung River on Jalan Veteran, Gambir, on Wednesday (1/28).

"... using natural stone materials to prevent further collapse,"

Central Jakarta SDA Sub-agency's Drainage Maintenance Section Head, Citrin Indriati, said the 30-meter-long, five-meter-high retaining wall collapsed due to water erosion and weakened embankment conditions.

"The repairs are being carried out using natural stone materials to prevent further collapse, while also ensuring the safety of the surrounding environment and infrastructure along the Ciliwung tributary on Jalan Veteran," Citrin explained on Thursday (1/29).

She added that the repairs are also intended to improve water flow so the channel can function optimally in reducing the risk of flooding, especially when water levels rise.

"A total of 15 personnel and one piece of heavy equipment have been deployed for the repairs," she shared.

Citrin noted that the repairs are targeted for completion by the end of February.

Meanwhile, Junaedi (45), a resident of Jalan Veteran RW 03, Gambir, expressed appreciation for the swift response by the Central Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency.

"Hopefully, after the repairs, floodwater on Jalan Veteran will recede more quickly during heavy rain as the drainage system can function properly again," he said.
