Joint personnel hit the ground running on Thursday to tackle a 40-centimeter flood on Jalan DI Panjaitan in East Jakarta.

We deployed two floating pumps and a mobile pump

After torrential rains triggered the flooding at 6:30 AM, it was all hands on deck as 12 SDA personnel teamed up with the city’s PPSU 'Orange Squad'.

"To speed up the drainage process, we deployed two floating pumps and a mobile pump capable of moving nearly 4,750 gallons per minute," said Jatinegara Water Resources Executing Unit Head, Meta Pradoningrum, Thursday (1/29).

Even with a light sprinkle still in the air, the flooding at Jalan DI Panjaitan started to drain away by 8:30 AM. Personnel are staying on high alert to ensure they are not caught off guard by any subsequent flooding.

"We’re asking drivers to keep their eyes peeled and be extra careful. If possible, take a detour to stay out of harm's way," he noted.

Cipinang Cempedak Urban Village Head, Rico Eka Putra Rifai added nine PPSU personnel were dispatched to tackle the flood.

"They are double-checking storm drains to ensure they are up to par and free of clogs," he explained.

This action received appreciation from one of the motorists, Safari (49).

"I want to thank the personnel who hit the ground running to manage the situation and guide motorists through the area,” he concluded.
