The activity led directly by the Mayor of East Jakarta, Munjirin, was carried out in a humane manner and took place in an orderly and conducive manner.
East Jakarta Mayor, Munjirin, said this activity is a continuation of the previous process, which included socialization and relocation of residents to simple rental apartments (Rusunawa), the issuance of a second First Warning Letter (SP1) and notification of the controlling implementation.
"Today we are clearing the building, demolishing it, and cleaning it. This land will then be available for the community as the burial site," he said, Tuesday (1/27).
Munjirin explained that the entire process was conducted humanely and prioritized a persuasive approach. Residents previously occupying the illegal buildings have been relocated to low-cost apartments, and their belongings have also been removed.
"When the demolition was carried out, the buildings were generally empty, so they simply had to be demolished. Some residents also voluntarily demolished their buildings," he added.
According to him, the total number of buildings in the Kebon Nanas Cemetery area is around 103 units, inhabited by 103 heads of families.
Meanwhile, Head Section of Operation for East Jakarta Satpol PP, Charles Siahaan stated his side deployed 100 personnel.
"Activities run safely, orderly and conducively," he admitted.
