The South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) is upgrading a drainage channel in Cilandak Barat to prevent flooding and improve water flow.
We want to make sure the water flows as it should
The work includes dredging mud and repairing cracked retaining walls. The local sub-agency head, Yansori, who oversees the project, said the maintenance is essential to keep the neighborhood’s infrastructure functioning properly.
"We want to make sure the water flows as it should," he stated, Tuesday (1/27).
This projet targets a 656-foot section of a storm drain that measures about 47 inches high and 31 inches wide.
He continues they are clearing out over 2 feet of sediment buildup to ensure the area can withstand heavy downpours without flooding.
"We’ve had an eight-member team on the ground with specialized machinery since January 19 to get this done," he added.
He hopes the project will increase the channel’s capacity and keep the area orderly, minimizing the potential for floods.
"We expect to finish work next month. We’re just hoping for clear skies and no heavy rain while the personnel are out there," he hoped.
This project received appreciation from one of the locals, Agus Hermawan.
"Previously, mud had piled up so high it was breaching the water’s surface. There was a real fear that during a major storm, the system would reach capacity and spill over, flooding local homes," he admitted.
