The emergency repair to the broken embankment of the Krukut River on Jalan Pulo Raya, Petogogan Urban Village, Kebayoran Baru District, South Jakarta has been completed.
Repairs were completed yesterday
The repair was run by South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency as the quick response to minimize flood impact.
Head of South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency, Santo said the breach in the embankment was caused by heavy rain with high intensity which resulted in an increase in the water discharge of the Krukut River some time ago.
"Yesterday's breach occurred near the Pulo Raya pump house. When the embankment breached, we immediately activated all the pumps to draw water back into the Krukut River and perform emergency repairs," he said, Monday (1/26).
He explained that a seven-meter-long emergency embankment was constructed using dolken wood and approximately 1,300 sandbags. The embankment was then covered with a tarpaulin to prevent water seepage.
"Repairs were completed yesterday. Dozens of Blue Troop personnel and 10 portable water pumps were deployed at the site," he explained.
According to him, once weather conditions return to normal and the water level in the Krukut River stabilizes, the team will carry out permanent repairs by building a stronger embankment to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
"Hopefully permanent repairs can be done soon," he hoped.
