The Water Resources (SDA) personnel from Koja, North Jakarta, have finished dredging mud and trash from the Gang Puskesmas drainage system in Tugu Selatan.

Thankfully, it’s all clear now

The cleanup in neighborhood RT 03/05 aims to ensure smoother water flow and prevent local flooding.

Koja Sub-district SDA Executing Unit Head, Slamet Riyanto said, thick mud and debris had been blocking the water flow, creating a major flood hazard. Acting on community feedback, the team cleared the hidden blockages.

"The concrete covers made it hard for residents to spot the buildup, so we stepped in to prevent potential flooding before the rains hit," he expressed, Monday (1/26).

He detailed that the dredging covered a 25-meter stretch on both sides of the drain, which is 40 centimeters wide and deep. Silt deposits had reached a thickness of approximately 20 centimeters.

"We deployed 10 personnel for the task. The work started last Thursday and was completed yesterday, with a total of 12 cubic meters of mud and trash removed," he explained.

This effort is part of a routine maintenance program to boost drainage capacity and prevent flooelding in residential areas during heavy downpours.

He also issued a call to action, urging residents to stop littering into drains and to report clogs immediately for swift handling.

This action received appreciation from one of the residents from RT 03/05, Syakir (45).

"Thankfully, it’s all clear now. The water is running fine, and we appreciate how fast the crew followed up on our concerns," he admitted.
