Commission E of the Jakarta City Council (DPRD) held a monitoring and evaluation (monev) working meeting on the outcomes of the recess related to the 2025 Regional Budget (APBD) and the planned realization of the 2026 APBD with the Culture Agency and the Library and Archives Agency.
"We must not be overshadowed by foreign cultures,"
According to Commission E Chairman M. Subki, the meeting focused on strengthening support for cultural development while reinforcing efforts to broaden public recognition of Jakarta’s culture.
Subki explained that various cultural activities and events must serve as a true reflection of Jakarta residents' identity.
"We want cultural events to genuinely reflect the identity of Jakarta's people. We must not be overshadowed by foreign cultures," he emphasized on Thursday (1/22).
He noted that public enthusiasm for foreign cultures is currently quite high, ranging from the wave of Korean culture to various international concerts.
Nevertheless, he warned that such enthusiasm should not cause local culture to be marginalized.
"Our own culture must not be neglected. We are encouraging the Culture Agency to expand cultural activities evenly across all areas of Jakarta," he said.
