Chairman of Jakarta City Council's Commission B, Nova Harivan Paloh welcomed the launch of 32 disability-friendly school buses, which will begin operating in 2026.
Accessibility for students becomes easier
He appreciated the fleet because it would facilitate accessibility for students, especially students with disabilities in the capital.
According to him, the addition of these school buses is a positive step in supporting the mobility of students with disabilities. The fleet is designed to allow wheelchair users to board and exit the bus safely and comfortably.
"Accessibility for students becomes easier," he said, Wednesday (1/21).
He hopes that the number of disability-friendly school buses can continue to increase and reach more areas in Jakarta in the coming years.
"Of course, it must be improved further in various regions so that the benefits can be felt more," he hoped.
Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung officially launched 32 new school buses specifically designed to be disability-friendly as part of Jakarta's efforts to become an increasingly inclusive city.
The fleet consists of 13 microbuses and 19 medium buses equipped with various supporting facilities, such as lift chairs and wheelchair-accessible areas. This school bus service is operated by the Transportation Agency and also opens five new routes that reach special schools.
